Maternal Child Health Visitation:
Due to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) precautions, our Special Care Nursery, Pediatric Unit, Labor and Delivery and Post-Partum Units although open 24/7 to one support person in L&D/Post-Partum or parents of hospitalized infant(s)/children, the one visitor/support person is strongly encouraged not to leave the hospital. 

If the visitor/support person needs to leave due to an emergency, their return must be approved by the unit manager or director. For Special Care Nursery and Pediatrics – the staff from those units will review the policy at the time of admission.

The Birthplace at Lowell General Hospital’s main campus features a complete range of specialized maternity services, including a wide array of pain management methods, lactation support, and a maternal fetal medicine program.

The Level IIB Special Care Nursery provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary care for infants born prematurely, infants with feeding difficulties, and those with other medical issues requiring close monitoring and assessment. The Special Care Nursery is staffed 24/7 by neonatologists in partnership with Tufts Children's Hospital. In addition, pediatric hospitalists from Tufts Medical Center provide emergency consultations and Boston level specialty care for our youngest patients, allowing families to stay close to home.
